Our partnership with Fauna & Flora

Schroders is proud to partner with the global nature conservation charity, Fauna & Flora. Through the Schroders Better Futures Fund, we are committing £1 million per year over the next three years to support vital, science-led conservation work across Uganda, Cambodia, Nicaragua, Romania and Scotland.

Fauna & Flora take an evidence-based approach to their projects which aligns with our corporate sustainability ambitions - to protect wildlife, support communities and address climate change - working with local communities to drive real change for people and the planet.

What is our partnership supporting?

We asked employees to vote on which of Fauna & Flora’s projects they would like to support. Over the next three years, our donated funds will be supporting five key projects which aim to protect the planet and drive meaningful change where it matters most.

  • Uganda: Helping communities in the Albertine Rift adopt nature-friendly, climate-resilient farming, restoring natural corridors between forest fragments, and fostering harmonious living alongside chimpanzees.
  • Cambodia: Working with local communities to protect coastal and marine environments that underpin their economy, culture, and climate stability.
  • Scotland: Enabling coastal and island communities to participate in safeguarding marine resources and restoring precious habitats.
  • Romania: Reconnecting wild landscapes to support bear, wolf, and large carnivore movement across the Carpathians, and assisting livestock farmers to coexist sustainably with wildlife.
  • Nicaragua: Supporting coastal communities in conserving endangered marine turtles and their habitats in the eastern Pacific through community-led monitoring, research, and behaviour change campaigns.

Our partnership is a powerful demonstration of our commitment to sustainable investing and protecting global biodiversity: a fundamental step for building lasting prosperity.

Cazenove Capital’s flagship sustainable funds partners with Fauna & Flora

In addition to Schroders’ corporate partnership, Cazenove Capital’s sustainable strategies - the Sustainable Balanced Fund and Sustainable Growth Fund for private clients, and the Sustainable Mulit-Asset Fund for charities - also supports Fauna & Flora. Fauna & Flora is one of three charities that our sustainable strategies are working with. The two other charities focus on ocean conservation and ensuring climate justice.

The level of donations made to Fauna & Flora, alongside two other charitable partners, will be based on the quantity of CO2e emissions forecast to be generated by the underlying investments within the flagship sustainable strategies. Importantly, the cost of these donations are covered by Cazenove Capital, and not passed onto investors.

This support recognises the fact that there are areas of material environmental and social need where it is more difficult for investments to directly have a positive impact. We continue to make progress in areas where we can improve outcomes. As documented in our latest sustainability and impact reports, the investments in our sustainable flagship funds are collectively estimated to have avoided 146,020* tonnes of emissions being released into the atmosphere in 2024. In addition, the funds have benefited over 477,875 people*. Our sustainable strategies will be supporting Fauna and Flora’s project focusing on the restoration of remaining chimpanzee corridors in Uganda.

“When this project was launched a decade ago, it was, first and foremost, a chimpanzee conservation initiative. Today, chimpanzees remain a core focus, but the project’s impact is reaching much further. The area is crucially important in helping to build resilience to the impacts of a changing climate, through the protection and restoration of biodiversity.

Cazenove Capital’s funding will enable us to continue building and expanding this work, achieving positive outcomes for people, nature and the climate.”

Rogers Niwamanya, Fauna & Flora’s Landscape Manager, Albertine Rift, Uganda

* Impact metric data provided, in part by Net Purpose. Data shown reflects the notional aligned impact calculated for the positions held in the fund as at the 31 December 2024, based on the value of assets as at the 31 December 2024. The positive impact is generated by the companies that we invest in and the users of their products and services, like the organisations that have helped improve access to healthcare, finance and education and the people who choose to switch to renewable energy. Investors in the fund are aligned with these impacts by investing in a company’s activities generally but do not finance any activity, product or service that a company may undertake or make available. We use the most up to date underlying impact data available as reported by the companies and fund managers in which we invest to estimate these impact metrics and apportion it according to our holding size. To illustrate the aggregated impact, we translate the impact into more meaningful comparisons using the following conversion ratios: the average UK home uses 2,700KWh of electricity in a year (Source: Ofgem). Where data is not available, we have not included it, with the expectation that our results are conservative. Impact metrics provided, in part by Net Purpose.
