Stock markets have enjoyed an astonishing recovery from the sell-off that followed President Trump’s announcement of high tariffs on America’s trading partners. Is the rebound too good to be true? Not necessarily. Assuming that the current pause on tariffs becomes permanent, the global economy should continue to expand at a reasonable pace. However, US trade policy remains a significant source of uncertainty, while geopolitics and government debt levels also pose risks to the outlook.
