Investment management

Our first investment is in understanding your objectives. We take the time to get to know your circumstances, priorities and ambitions. We use our long-standing experience and expertise to choose the investment strategy best able to deliver continued prosperity, responsibly and securely.

Working with you
Get in touch

Our access to Schroders’ global investment experts combined with the knowledge of our internal specialists, gives us a unique perspective on an ever-changing world.

Our sole purpose in constructing portfolios for our clients is to provide them with the best long-term performance within a suitable risk tolerance. We select your investments with this objective in mind, only choosing to invest in Schroder funds if we believe they compete with the very best available in the market and only once they have been subject to the same scrutiny and rigorous testing.

This freedom and insight ensures we make investments that are right for each client, with strategies that deliver security and prosperity.

Getting to know our clients’ circumstances, priorities, concerns and ambitions is the most important investment that we make. It is how we balance individual appetites for risk and reward and meet each unique objective.

The majority of our clients work with us under a discretionary agreement. This means that once a suitable strategy is agreed with you, we are responsible for implementing that strategy and report to you on a regular basis and take care of all of the necessary administration.

As well as continually reporting to you on the changes we make to your portfolios, we will review your objectives and circumstances regularly to ensure that as these evolve, so does our strategy so that we are always positioned to deliver your long-term goals.

Our wealth management approach

We know that investing successfully takes time and dedication. Even with significant knowledge and experience, managing your own financial affairs can be a complicated, lengthy and laborious process. That is why you can rely on our team of experts, with long-standing experience of advising clients, to take charge of the day-to-day decisions involved in managing your portfolio of investments.

Our partnership with our clients is based on trust. We take the time to understand their specific circumstances and work with their existing advisers so that the management of their wealth is seamless.

We gather an experienced team around each of our clients. This is led by a portfolio manager and, where applicable, a wealth planner. Together, they agree an investment approach that ensures your assets are invested in a way that balances risk and reward in order to achieve your goals.

Our approach to wealth management ensures that investments are structured tax-efficiently, and that portfolios are structured in a tax-efficient way.

For those wishing to invest in individual stocks or bonds as opposed to or as well as funds, we offer a separate segregated mandate service. This service also allows us to screen your investments in depth, creating a strong and unique portfolio in line with your values. If you have specific ethical concerns and want to avoid particular sectors, we will design a portfolio that reflects your personal principles.

We believe that by investing responsibly and committing to social and environmental goals we can create long-term value for our clients.

Our investment approach

A robust framework

We combine a number of key elements to achieve consistent returns within an environment of controlled risk. We draw on research and analysis from our own in-house team and the guidance of investment specialists from around the Schroder Group as well as invaluable external investment expertise. We then overlay the individual needs of each client and discuss the most suitable and appropriate investments.

A business cycle approach

Working to create the right asset allocation for each client is closely linked to the understanding of the economic climate. Different asset classes will outperform at different points in the cycle and an active approach will help manage associated risk and opportunities. Reviewing asset classes in light of the business cycle allows us to make insightful decisions that are dynamic and relevant.

Active portfolio management

Your experienced portfolio manager will adapt Cazenove Capital’s central investment strategy to ensure that your portfolio is reviewed and altered as appropriate over time to keep it aligned with your investment objectives and risk tolerance. Changes in your own personal circumstances and tax position will be an important factor in how decisions are taken over the longer term on your behalf.

Investing tax efficiently

Our aim is to create long-term value for our clients. That is why our teams always consider the entire range of government-approved, tax-efficient structures. We have a full range of tax-efficient solutions at our disposal to match our clients’ objectives and needs.

While these include well-known solutions such as ISAs (Individual Savings Account) and SIPPs (Self Invested Pension Plans) as well as Junior ISAs for children, we may also advise on structures such as Venture Capital Trusts (VCTs) and Enterprise Investment Schemes (EISs). These investments may, at times, be suitable for clients with a higher risk tolerance and allow clients to get involved in smaller businesses at an early stage.

Many of our clients are concerned about Inheritance Tax (IHT), and without careful planning, it can leave them with a substantial bill at a difficult time for their family. For each unique client, our wealth planners will advise on the most suitable way to structure their investments tax efficiently and plan ahead with this in mind.

We offer a specialist portfolio aimed at those who are concerned about their IHT liability. Uniquely tailored to individual circumstances - it invests in stocks that are exempt from IHT after two years, rather than after the usual seven. This allows the investor to benefit from any income and capital growth from these shares, and the capital to be withdrawn at any time. The IHT Portfolio Service can be held in an ISA Further information on this service can be found here.

Expertise in private markets

Private assets are investments that are typically not publicly listed and traded. Therefore they can offer diversification benefits and uncorrelated returns because the additional return can be thought of as compensation for the lower liquidity and complexity of private investments. Investors, or their managers, generally need specialist relationships to access these types of assets.

As an alternative source of return, private assets can help to diversify investment portfolios and offer potential capital growth to help meet long-term goals.

As stewards of your money, we can help you access a breadth of solutions.

Don’t invest unless you’re prepared to lose all the money you invest. This is a high-risk investment and you are unlikely to be protected if something goes wrong.

Family office services

With 200 years of heritage behind us, we understand the complexities of working with families spanning generations as well as jurisdictions. Many of the families we work with have been clients for generations, building deep relationships, trust and personal understanding.

Our family office service is as individual as the families we serve. We offer fully bespoke investment strategies, extensive benchmarking and access to world-class expertise from across Cazenove Capital and the wider Schroder Group to ensure that family wealth is preserved and grown.

With homes and business interests across the world, we understand that families may span many jurisdictions. We offer access to our extensive experience of handling wealth in a wide variety of currencies, as well as competitive foreign exchange rates.

Leaving a lasting legacy is an important concern for many clients, and our specialists can tailor a solution that suits family interests and future plans effectively and efficiently.

Sustainability

Spanning social and financial investments, sustainable investing covers a broad range of environmental, social and governance (ESG) topics. For many of our clients, considering ESG issues is becoming fundamental in helping them ensure that their investments shape better outcomes for society.

Central to our sustainable investment approach is the understanding that those companies that can adapt and thrive in a climate of rapid social and environmental change will be more successful in growing their business. Careful consideration of material ESG issues allows us to potentially mitigate risks that could arise from these issues as well as identify opportunities. We work with an extensive team of sustainability specialists as well as proprietary tools from the Schroders Group to help us appraise the companies that we invest in.

Our sustainable investment solutions combine our tailored wealth services with the depth and breadth of expertise at Schroders and our best ideas from across the market. We work with you to understand your values and how to best reflect them in your investment strategy.

Our sustainable investment approach is set out in full in our Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Policy.
