Michael Pomery

Michael retired in 2009 after over 40 years as a consulting actuary with Bacon & Woodrow, now part of Aon. He became a Commander of the Royal Victorian Order (CVO) in 2007 for actuarial services to the Royal Households.

He held a number of positions in the Institute of Actuaries, including being President from 2004 to 2006, and subsequently until 2014 in the International Actuarial Association, including three years as chairman of the Professionalism Committee.

In the charitable field, he was a trustee of the Pensions Policy Institute, a research based charity, from 2007 to 2016, and served as chairman from 2013 to 2016. He was a trustee of the Charitable Trust of the Worshipful Company of Actuaries from 2011 to 2019, serving as chairman from 2015 to 2018. He is currently a trustee of the Whiteley Homes Trust, a large retirement village for elderly people of limited means in Surrey, since 2009, as well as being the Honorary President of the Pensions Archive Trust. From 1970 to 1972, Michael and his wife taught in a secondary school in a developing country with VSO.
